Liverpool Monitor Tarik Muharemovic as Leeds United Take Firm Transfer Stance
Liverpool are among the clubs tracking Leeds United defender Tarik Muharemovic, although the current picture suggests Elland Road remains the most likely place for him to stay in the short term. According to TeamTalk, Leeds have made a clear decision on the 23-year-old centre-back as interest builds across Europe.
The report states that Liverpool are in the mix alongside Inter Milan, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, with Muharemovic drawing attention after an impressive rise since his move from Sassuolo. TEAMtalk says, “Leeds United have taken a strong stance on the future of centre-back Tarik Muharemovic, who is attracting interest from Liverpool and a host of top European sides.”
Tarik Muharemovic attracting elite interest
Muharemovic “joined Leeds from Sassuolo in July in a deal worth £34million” and has quickly become a regular under Daniel Farke. His development has not gone unnoticed. TEAMtalk adds that his “left-footed profile, physicality, and composure on the ball have made him one of the more discussed young centre-backs by clubs keen on a defensive rebuild.”
That description explains why Liverpool are watching closely. Left-sided central defenders with comfort in possession remain highly valued in the modern game, particularly for clubs planning medium-term squad evolution. Muharemovic appears to fit that bracket.
Inter Milan’s admiration looks more advanced. The report says, “Inter Milan have renewed their interest after missing out on him last summer, when they had agreed personal terms before negotiations with Sassuolo stalled.” Barcelona are also said to be firmly in the frame, while Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund “have both been named by sources as potential destinations with both sides keeping tabs but they are not as invested as the likes of Inter, Barcelona and Bayern.”

Leeds United stance leaves suitors waiting
For now, Leeds are holding a strong line. TEAMtalk reports, “With the defender contracted until 2031 and performing at a high level, club sources have confirmed they have no intention of selling in January.” That is the key detail in the story.
There is also a financial barrier. Leeds are said to value Muharemovic at more than £60million, a figure that would represent a major increase on the £34million they paid. As the report puts it, “Any serious approach would likely require a significant fee, well above the price paid in the summer.”
That leaves interested clubs in monitoring mode. Bayern Munich are mentioned as a possible future contender, although “there are no concrete plans yet as they are still building a list of potential targets to strengthen defensive options.”
Liverpool transfer picture remains one to watch
From Liverpool’s point of view, this currently looks more like due diligence than an active push. The report is clear that the most substantial groundwork has come elsewhere, noting that “the most consistent and detailed work has been done by Inter and Barcelona.”
Still, Liverpool being linked is notable. Muharemovic’s age profile, left-footed balance and apparent ceiling align with the type of market opportunity elite clubs often track early, even when a deal is not immediately there to be done.
Our View
This is the sort of report that instantly grabs attention because the profile makes sense. A 23-year-old left-sided centre-back, already playing regularly, already drawing interest from Inter Milan, Barcelona and Bayern Munich, that is exactly the level of talent Liverpool should be scouting aggressively.
The line that stands out most is that Liverpool are “keeping tabs” rather than driving the process. That can change quickly in this market, especially if a player continues to develop and a club decides the timing is right. Much depends on whether Leeds soften, whether the player pushes, and whether Liverpool see him as a priority rather than an option on a wider shortlist.
The valuation is interesting too. More than £60million is serious money for a defender who has only just arrived at Leeds, but that is the market now for young centre-backs with physicality and composure. If Liverpool truly believe he can become a top-level starter, the fee becomes part of the calculation rather than the reason to walk away.
There is also something encouraging in Liverpool being attached to a player admired across Europe. Even if this one does not move soon, it shows the recruitment team are looking in the right places. The ideal outcome would be continued monitoring, more background work, and a swift move if the situation changes. For now, this feels like a name worth remembering rather than a transfer on the brink.
