The 2027 budget of the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha was defeated for the second time yesterday (Oct. 26).
The budget was presented for the second time at a special council meeting held yesterday under the chairmanship of Attorney-at-Law Chinthaka Hewapathirana of the National People’s Power (NPP).
During the vote, the ruling NPP secured 22 votes in favour of the budget, while the common opposition secured 23 votes against it.
As a result, the budget was defeated by a majority of one vote.
The budget was also defeated by a majority of one vote at the first vote held on Oct. 13, when it was initially presented.
