Employees may soon be able to complete complex business tasks without switching between multiple software applications or manually managing individual workflows. Oracle is introducing two artificial intelligence capabilities designed to let workers describe what they want to accomplish while AI coordinates the steps needed to get it done.
Announced October 26 at Oracle AI World in Las Vegas, Oracle Fusion Companion and Oracle Fusion Agentic Home aim to simplify how organizations use AI across finance, human resources, supply chains, and other business operations.
The capabilities are part of Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications and allow employees to initiate work through supported AI tools, including ChatGPT, or through Oracle’s own AI-powered interface.
For small and midsize businesses managing increasingly complicated operations, the announcement highlights a shift from AI systems that primarily answer questions toward systems capable of coordinating and executing business processes.
Oracle Fusion Companion Coordinates Business Workflows
Oracle Fusion Companion serves as an intelligent layer connecting users with the applications, transactions, approvals, and AI agents required to complete business tasks.
Rather than requiring employees to identify the appropriate application or manually initiate a workflow, the system interprets a business objective and determines which actions are necessary.
For example, a business manager could potentially request assistance resolving a purchasing issue that involves reviewing financial information, checking supplier records, and initiating an approval. Instead of handling each step separately, Fusion Companion is designed to coordinate the relevant processes while following established permissions and controls.
Oracle says the technology can also work with data and services outside its own applications, allowing authorized activities to span multiple enterprise systems.
“AI is changing where enterprise work begins, but organizations need to maintain control over how that work gets done,” said Chris Leone, executive vice president, Applications Development, Oracle.
“Fusion Companion enables employees to define business objectives and execute work through the AI tools they already use, while Oracle Fusion provides the business context, execution capabilities, and enterprise controls needed to get that work done.”
The system supports specialized AI agents and applications capable of performing analysis, planning, simulations, optimization, and longer-running business processes. These include Fusion Claw-powered applications designed to work with large amounts of enterprise data.
Fusion Agentic Home Provides a Central AI Workspace
Oracle Fusion Agentic Home provides a personalized interface where employees can describe business objectives, delegate assignments to AI agents, and monitor their progress.
The interface uses Fusion Companion to identify the appropriate resources and coordinate execution without requiring users to navigate different applications or select individual AI agents.
One feature focuses on identifying and resolving business exceptions. The system can analyze problems, identify possible causes, determine corrective actions, and execute authorized resolutions. Decisions requiring human judgment can be escalated to employees.
This approach could be particularly useful for businesses with limited administrative staff, where employees frequently handle responsibilities across several departments.
For example, a growing business might use an AI-driven workflow to investigate an operational discrepancy, gather supporting information, and recommend or initiate corrective action. Employees would remain responsible for decisions outside the system’s authorized permissions.
What the Changes Could Mean for Smaller Businesses
Although Oracle’s announcement focuses on enterprise applications, several capabilities could benefit smaller organizations already using its cloud software.
- Less administrative work: Employees could spend less time navigating applications, initiating approvals, and coordinating routine processes.
- Faster decision-making: AI agents could collect relevant information and identify problems that would otherwise require manual investigation.
- Greater flexibility: Workers could access business functionality through familiar AI interfaces rather than learning multiple application workflows.
- Improved coordination: Businesses using several connected systems could potentially automate tasks involving finance, HR, operations, and other functions.
- Centralized oversight: Existing permissions, approval requirements, and organizational policies would continue governing authorized AI actions.
These potential benefits will depend on how effectively businesses configure the technology and integrate it with their existing systems.
Security and oversight remain important considerations. Giving AI systems the ability to initiate transactions and execute workflows introduces additional risks if permissions are configured incorrectly or automated decisions produce unexpected results.
Small business owners will also need to evaluate implementation complexity, employee training, and the reliability of AI-generated actions. Connecting systems and establishing appropriate approval processes may require technical expertise.
Oracle’s announcement did not specify pricing, general availability dates, or whether the new capabilities would require additional licensing. Those details will be important for smaller companies evaluating affordability and potential returns.
The new capabilities build on Oracle’s broader ERP, human capital management, and supply chain management applications, which already manage significant amounts of organizational data.
For businesses considering AI-driven automation, the development signals an increasingly important distinction: AI tools are evolving beyond generating information to taking authorized actions within business systems. The value for smaller organizations will depend on whether these capabilities can deliver measurable efficiency gains without creating unnecessary costs, complexity, or operational risks.
