Nikola Jokic had a message for the fans who booed the Denver Nuggets, and he delivered it rather bluntly after Saturday’s home opener.
“We got booed at our first home game, and I think those fans who booed us, they don’t need to come anymore,” said Jokic after the 141-135 overtime win over the New Orleans Pelicans. “If you guys follow us, you know that we never quit and we’ve come back from much worse situations.”

The Nuggets got off to an unusually slow start in which they fell behind by 23 points. The Pelicans were shooting nearly lights out at 65.9% in the first half, which the Nuggets couldn’t keep up with. Denver fans would shower the team with boos as they headed to the locker room at the half down 73-57.

Regarding the sluggish start, Jokic was matter-of-fact with the reason why. The Nuggets weren’t hitting their shots, and the Pelicans were. He said they also needed a bit to work through some “bad energy.”
After the half, the Nuggets finally managed to shake off that bad energy. Jokic would finish with 35 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists. This would be Jokic’s 199th regular-season triple-double, just narrowly trailing Russell Westbrook’s 209.
Jamal Murray would also be a key part of the Nuggets’ comeback. He would record 42 points, as well as hitting a staggering eight three-pointers. Rookie Trevon Brazile also put on a show with 17 points, as well as some key blocks and defensive rebounds in crunch time.
The Nuggets were playing shorthanded as they were without Cam Johnson (ankle sprain), Alpha Diallo (wrist sprain), and Julian Strawther (knee sprain).
The Nuggets will look to start much faster against the Golden State Warriors when they come to town Monday night.
