The City Boy Movement in Oyo State has reaffirmed its loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC), warning political groups against claiming allegiance to the party while promoting candidates of opposition parties.
The Director of the movement in Oyo State, Hon. Olufemi Onireti, stated this in a statement issued on Monday, stressing that genuine party loyalty must extend to all APC candidates across elective positions.
Onireti said the movement remained committed to the APC and its candidates at the presidential, governorship and other levels, insisting that it would not engage in selective political support.
“We are unequivocally loyal to the APC and all its candidates. Our loyalty is not selective, and we will not support one candidate while abandoning another. We stand firmly with the party at the presidential, governorship and other elective levels,” he said.
The movement expressed concern over the activities of some political groups that identify with the APC but openly promote candidates of other parties, describing the practice as inconsistent with genuine party allegiance.
According to Onireti, political loyalty should not be determined by personal interests or political calculations.
“Political loyalty must be consistent. You cannot claim to be committed to the APC while simultaneously promoting candidates of other political parties based on personal interests or political calculations. Such actions raise serious questions about the sincerity of your allegiance to the party,” he stated.
He maintained that the Oyo City Boy Movement would not compromise its principles or participate in any arrangement capable of undermining the APC’s interests.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Oyo City Boy Movement stands firmly with the APC and all its candidates. We will not be part of any arrangement that undermines the party’s interests or promotes candidates from opposing political parties while claiming to represent the APC. Our loyalty is to the party, and our support extends to all its candidates,” Onireti added.
The movement also called on APC stakeholders and members of the public to distinguish between groups genuinely committed to the party and those whose political activities, it said, reflected divided allegiance.
It urged all groups affiliated with the APC to uphold consistency, discipline and unity in their political engagements.
Meanwhile, Onireti expressed appreciation to participants at the movement’s inaugural event held last week, commending members and supporters for their contributions to its success.
He particularly thanked the Oyo State APC Chairman, Chief Moses Alake Adeyemo, and the party’s State Women Leader, Dr. Mrs. Felicia Adekemi Opatunde, for attending the event and demonstrating their support.
He also acknowledged the contributions of executives and members of the movement across the state’s various zones, praising their dedication and commitment.
The statement reiterated the movement’s position that support for the APC should be reflected in the political choices and activities of groups operating under its name.
