THE Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) said it reopened the bidding for the P580.07-million contract to build the Zamboanga passenger terminal building.
In a bid notice on Monday, the PPA invited interested parties to submit bids for the project by Nov. 11.
The winning bidder must complete the project within 540 calendar days, it said, adding that bidders must have completed a project of a similar type to qualify for the auction.
In September, the PPA said it hopes to reopen the bidding this year, with awarding expected by the end of 2026.
Awarded on Jan. 21, 2021 to MAC Builders, Inc., the contract was terminated in September 2025 due to operational concerns, citing design misalignment and prolonged delays.
The PPA has said that location-specific challenges and design considerations were also an issue. It added that the completion of the project was also delayed due to the pandemic.
The passenger terminal was about 52% complete, the PPA said, noting that the project is now expected to be completed by 2028.
Meanwhile, the PPA awarded the P215.88-million contract to upgrade the Jubang cruise ship project in Surigao del Norte to a joint venture of Khan Kon Chi Construction and Development Corp. and KUDC Industries, Inc. — Ashley Erika O. Jose
