Colombo, October 26 (Daily Mirror) - Residents living downstream of the Thabbowa Reservoir and along the banks of the Mee Oya have been urged to remain vigilant as 2,640 cubic feet of water per second is being released into the river following the opening of eight spillway gates.
Irrigation Department Director (Water Management) Eng. H.M.P.S.D. Herath said four spillway gates of the Thabbowa Reservoir, located in the Mee Oya river basin, had been opened by two feet each, while another four gates had been opened by one foot each to manage the current inflow of water.
He advised residents to closely monitor fluctuations in river water levels and follow announcements issued by the Irrigation Department and disaster management authorities.
Residents have also been urged to remain alert and take necessary precautions in response to any changes in water levels.
