Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander struggled to hold back tears after teammate Jalen Williams suffered a frightening lower-leg injury during Sunday’s victory over the Los Angeles Clippers. The emotional moment showed us the bond between the Thunder’s two NBA All-Stars as the team faces uncertainty about Williams’ health.
Williams went down with 1:14 remaining in the fourth quarter while driving toward the basket. After contact from Clippers guard Kris Dunn, he landed awkwardly, leaving his left leg in a concerning position.
Medical staff rushed to assist Williams and covered the leg with towels before he was stretchered off the court. The arena fell silent as teammates gathered around him, while the crowd offered a standing ovation.
Speaking with an on-court reporter after the game, Gilgeous-Alexander became emotional when asked about Williams’ injury.
“Yeah, I don’t even know. I just feel bad for him. Nothing more than that,” Gilgeous-Alexander said, wiping away tears.
The Thunder captain acknowledged the challenge of continuing without one of their most important players. However, he also expressed confidence that Williams would eventually return.
“We don’t have no choice. That’s what we signed up for,” Gilgeous-Alexander said. “It’s obviously going to be tough without a player like that.”
He then offered an encouraging message about his teammate’s future.
“Yeah, but he’s not gone forever,” he said. “He’ll be back better than ever, and we know it. We’ve just got to hold the fort until he comes back.”

Thunder face uncertainty after Jalen Williams’ injury
Oklahoma City secured a 108-101 win to improve to 3-0, but the victory came at a significant cost. Gilgeous-Alexander led the team with 34 points, while Ajay Mitchell contributed 18 off the bench.
Williams’ injury was particularly concerning given his importance to Oklahoma City’s championship ambitions. The forward missed significant time last season because of hamstring and wrist problems.
The Thunder have not yet announced a definitive diagnosis or recovery timeline. Williams’ status will become clearer after further medical evaluation.
Oklahoma City also lost Cason Wallace and Jaylin Williams to injuries during Sunday’s game.
