Rambus just turned the AI server boom into its best quarter on record. The company reported third-quarter 2026 revenue of $218.3 million, up 22% from the same period a year earlier.
That figure cleared the company’s own forecast of $210 million to $216 million. Shares rose more than 5% in after-hours trading following the October 26, 2026 report.
The numbers behind the record
Product revenue drove the headline result. It hit a record $114.3 million, up 22% year over year and 15% from the prior quarter.
Royalties held steady at $77.0 million. Licensing remains a reliable cushion, while the product business supplies the momentum.
Non-GAAP diluted earnings per share came in at $0.84, a 35% jump from a year earlier.
Cash generation also set a record. Operating cash flow reached $102.5 million for the quarter.
Rambus repurchased $135.4 million in shares during the quarter, more than its operating cash flow for the period.
Looking ahead, management guided fourth-quarter revenue to a range of $227 million to $233 million.
Why AI servers keep calling Rambus
The company’s growth was led by its DDR5 registered clock drivers, or RCDs. These chips sit on server memory modules and help keep timing and command signals clean as speeds climb.
Rambus highlighted new products tied to power management. They include a PMIC, or power management integrated circuit, built for LPDDR6 SOCAMM2 memory modules.
It also introduced a Root of Trust security IP designed for data centers. That is a hardware security block that helps verify a system is running trusted code from the moment it powers on.
Background: from patent licensor to product company
For much of its history, Rambus was best known as a holder of memory interface patents. Its business leaned heavily on licensing those designs to others.
The latest quarter shows how far the mix has shifted. Product revenue grew 22% year over year while royalties stayed flat.
On October 22, 2026, Rambus announced a collaboration with ChipAgents focused on applying agentic AI to chip design. Agentic AI refers to software that can take multistep actions toward a goal, rather than just answering prompts.
What this means for investors and the chip market
Rambus’s results show a 35% rise in non-GAAP EPS, record cash flow, and $135.4 million in buybacks. The higher fourth-quarter guidance of $227 million to $233 million is the number to watch next.
Rambus’s growth is closely tied to data center upgrade cycles, and any slowdown in AI server spending would likely show up in product revenue first. Product businesses also carry more exposure to customer ordering patterns and inventory swings than steady royalty streams do.
