Lamarre-Condon reported work-related trauma on way to handing himself in

On the way to handing himself in to detectives for an alleged double murder, former Sydney police officer Beau Lamarre-Condon reported a work-related psychological injury and claimed he had symptoms of schizophrenia, a jury has heard.

The half-hour call to a police assistance line was played at the 31-year-old's Supreme Court trial on Tuesday.

In it, he told the operator he had been seeing a psychologist for the previous year and a half.

Mr Lamarre-Condon has pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder over the deaths of Jesse Baird and his boyfriend Luke Davies on February 19, 2024, and is claiming self-defence.

He has been accused of shooting them with his police pistol in Mr Baird's Paddington home, before spending days cleaning the scene, disposing of evidence and leaving their bodies at a rural area at Bungonia, south of Sydney.

The then-senior constable told the police assistance line operator that since joining the force in August 2017, he had been exposed to "destruction, death and trauma" with "minimal support".

He also reported: "I have been bullied by multiple NSW Police Force members and when reporting bullying against myself no action has been taken."

In the call, Mr Lamarre-Condon said it had "caused me to not sleep, get anxious, it's caused me to have some symptoms of schizophrenia", before asking the operator to "just delete that whole thing".

"We'll keep it short and sweet."

He then provided similar details and added that the issue had "caused me to not have the mental capability that I had prior to joining the police force".

On the call, he mentioned someone was with him in the car driving him to a meeting with police.

"The detectives are already aware that I'm being driven there," he said.

When asked his expected return to work date or next medical appointment, he said: "I don't know when that's going to be, let's just make up a date."

He was told an incident number would be texted to his phone, but replied: "I'm going to put my mum's number because my phone's going to be taken off me in a moment."

Claim friend helped in statement

The bodies of Mr Baird and Mr Davies were found in surfboard bags eight days after the alleged murders.

Prosecutors allege he unsuccessfully attempted to sink their bodies in a dam at a farm in the area before they were moved.

Earlier on Tuesday, the jurors were read a statement written by the accused in June 2025, in which he claimed a friend who was with him in a white hire van for that trip had also assisted.

He also said he wanted to "do the right thing for the families" and tell "the truth" about what happened.

The friend, known by the pseudonym Elizabeth Kennedy during the trial, has previously told the court she was not told the purpose of the trip, and was left at the farm's gate for 40 minutes while Mr Lamarre-Condon drove further into the property.

In the statement, Mr Lamarre-Condon accused the friend of knowingly assisting with the failed attempt to sink the bodies.

"She was a willing participant that had full knowledge of what we were going to do prior to getting into the van," he wrote.

He claimed he called Ms Kennedy the day after the shooting, told her Jesse was dead, and asked if he should go to police.

He claimed it was Ms Kennedy who suggested hiding the bodies because police would not believe him, and that he drove to her house the next day with the bodies in the van.

The accused said he told her "you need to know this is serious, if you don't want to help me, I completely understand", before lifting a tarp and showing her Mr Baird's head.

During Ms Kennedy's evidence, she denied this version of events, and also rejected that she was with him at the dam.

The accused claimed, in his statement, that in subsequent days he told Ms Kennedy he was going to "be honest" when he met with detectives, and she urged him to instead say that she did not know what was happening on the drive.

"I said, 'Look, I'd rather not lie, so maybe I won't mention anything about you at all. But if this goes to court, I can't lie under oath," he wrote in the statement.

Mr Lamarre-Condon's statement also said that during June 2025 discussions with his lawyers about his pleas, he decided to "be honest about everything" and offer police assistance with a statement regarding what he claimed was Ms Kennedy's involvement.

"I also wanted to do the right thing for the families, as they deserve to know the truth too," he wrote.

The trial, which is now in its sixth week, continues.
