Bill Simmons is not thrilled whatsoever about Game 6 of the WNBA Finals being played at 12:30 p.m. ET. The sports analyst was quite harsh in his response to the news.
Despite concerns that the WNBA Finals might need to be played in a venue seating just 3,500 fans in Atlanta, Games 3 and 4 were played at State Farm Arena in front of huge crowds. Game 6, which is set to be played in Atlanta on October 29, was facing some scheduling conflicts that have resulted in an interesting solution.
The WNBA released a statement explaining that the game will now tip off at 12:30 p.m. ET, with the Atlanta Hawks moving their game to later at night in the same arena. A Finals game starting at noon and earlier than that for a huge chunk of the country is far from ideal, and it’s getting quite a bit of backlash.
Bill Simmons calls out WNBA leadership’s decision-making all season long after Game 6 statement
The series between the Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries is incredibly tight. Game 6 could see the Valks lift their first-ever championship trophy in just their second season in existence. To have a game that crucial in the afternoon is a bit underwhelming.
WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert will be stepping down at the end of this year. This season has been quite a challenge for her and the league hierarchy. Hilariously, after this latest announcement, Bill Simmons has suggested that they have gotten absolutely nothing right.
“Incredible! A heroic finishing touch to one of the dumbest leadership seasons in professional sports history. They’ve had like 12 major decisions in 2026 and somehow went 0 for 12. People want to like this league!” Simmons wrote in an X post.
Despite all the criticisms, the league has managed to grow once again, and the Finals are a resounding success. Considering that the Valkyries have no arena issues, fans will be hoping that it goes to a Game 7 and the Finals get the incredible ending they deserve.
