Crypto: RWA tokenization concerns conservatives in the United States

In the weekend edition of October 24 and 25, 2026, of the Wall Street Journal, top American executives discovered a full-page advertisement with a general warning tone. Its initiator, the Common Sense Leadership Fund, urges the leaders of the S&P 500 to exercise a 30-day withdrawal right to oppose the replication of their shares in the form of crypto tokens on the blockchain (RWAs tokenization).

Crypto: The Alarm Cry of an American Lobby Against the Tokenization of RWAs

Published on page B5 of the business section of the Wall Street Journal, the publication opens with a striking phrase: “Your shares. Their tokens. Your problem.” The Common Sense Leadership Fund details eight major risks that the tokenization of RWAs would entail without the explicit consent of the issuers.

Risks put forward by the conservative group	Alleged consequences
Price gaps & Volatility	Risk of decoupling between the real share price and its token.
Loss of traceability	Opacity regarding the true identity of the final shareholders.
Hacking & Cyber theft	Exposure of investors to token theft due to network vulnerabilities.
Bypassing SEC/FINRA rules	Trades conducted outside federal regulatory frameworks.

The Common Sense Leadership Fund argues that the creation of tokens representing stock shares on decentralized platforms escapes traditional governance mechanisms and exposes listed companies to legal risks.

Why RWAs Unsettle Traditional Finance

The tokenization of real-world assets (RWAs) allows issuing digital representations of financial assets, such as government bonds or shares of large companies, directly on blockchain networks. For the crypto sector, this is a major breakthrough bringing permanent liquidity, transparency, and reduced intermediation costs.

However, for conservative circles and some traditional players, this model questions the central role of historic stock exchanges (NYSE, Nasdaq) and regulators. The lobby reminds that the SEC grants a 30-day window to corporate leaders to file a formal objection (opt-out) against the tokenized replication of their securities.

Additional Pressure After the Physical Crypto Wallet Crisis

This political offensive occurs in an already tense climate for the Web3 ecosystem. While leading brands of crypto cold wallets suffer a series of major security breaches, the question of custody and trust in the custody infrastructure becomes central. For RWA detractors, these technical vulnerabilities provide an additional argument to slow the migration of traditional assets to decentralized networks.

If this campaign reflects persistent political distrust, it also highlights the growing importance of crypto in the global macroeconomic landscape. The use of large-scale advertising campaigns in a media like the Wall Street Journal shows that tokenization is no longer a mere technological experiment but a strategic topic taken seriously by American power circles.

The initiative of the Common Sense Leadership Fund illustrates the growing tension between decentralized finance and traditional regulatory frameworks. It remains to be seen whether American CEOs will respond to this call for boycott or if RWA adoption will continue to expand in global markets. In your opinion, why is the crypto ecosystem so contested?
