The Vikings moved to 6-0 on Sunday with another very Vikings-like victory. After allowing an early explosive touchdown, Brian Flores’ defense shut down the Colts while blitzing 85 percent of the time. The offense left a whole lot to be desired, but did just enough to take the lead with a touchdown early in the fourth quarter. Will Reichard knocked in three more field goals, although his streak did end on a blocked 59-yard try.
Let’s dive into this week’s snap counts and notable PFF grades.
Vikings offensive snaps vs. Colts (out of 59)
- QB Kyler Murray: 59
- C Blake Brandel: 59
- LG Joe Huber: 59
- LT Christian Darrisaw: 59
- RG Will Fries: 59
- RT Brian O’Neill: 59
- WR Justin Jefferson: 55
- WR Jordan Addison: 49
- TE T.J. Hockenson: 45
- RB Jordan Mason: 38
- WR Jauan Jennings: 33
- TE Ben Yurosek: 30
- RB Aaron Jones: 15
- FB Max Bredeson: 11
- TE Gavin Bartholomew: 7
- RB DeeJay Dallas: 6
- WR Tai Felton: 4
- WR Myles Price: 2
Darrisaw, Addison, Hockenson, and Mason all returned to action after missing at least the most recent game and got through healthy, which was good to see. Mason ended up out-snapping Jones by quite a bit, with the veteran running back dealing with more knee issues. With Hockenson back, Yurosek is the blocking TE2 and Bartholomew a distant TE3.
Top 5 PFF grades on offense (min. 20 snaps)
- T.J. Hockenson — 75.0
- Brian O’Neill — 70.6
- Joe Huber — 70.5
- Jordan Addison — 69.5
- Justin Jefferson — 67.9
Jennings, Yurosek, and Murray also received solid grades. There were no spectacular performances on offense, but there were several players who did their jobs well enough to move the ball. The big issue was with the details of all-eleven execution on certain important plays.
Bredeson and Jones had the lowest grades, but they were below 20 snaps. The lowest grades among qualified players went to Brandel, Mason, and Fries, who all struggled with pass-blocking. Mason also had a drop as a receiver.
Vikings defensive snaps vs. Colts (out of 61)
- S Josh Metellus: 59
- LB Blake Cashman: 58
- LB Eric Wilson: 56
- DL Jalen Redmond: 54
- OLB Andrew Van Ginkel: 52
- OLB Dallas Turner: 48
- CB Isaiah Rodgers: 46
- DL Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins: 46
- CB Byron Murphy Jr: 45
- CB James Pierre: 37
- S Theo Jackson: 36
- DL Levi Drake Rodriguez: 35
- S Harrison Smith: 31
- OLB Kyle Van Noy: 24
- DT Domonique Orange: 13
- DT Caleb Banks: 12
- LB Jake Golday: 9
- S Jacob Thomas: 4
- LB Ivan Pace Jr: 4
- S Jay Ward: 2
The usual top eight was a top nine on Sunday, with Ingram-Dawkins joining the mix as nearly a full-time player. There was a little bit more rotation than usual involving Murphy and Rodgers. Pierre also played quite a bit, as did Jackson and Smith.
Van Noy continues to be ridiculously productive on not that many snaps. Orange and Banks still aren’t playing a lot, and considering both were on the field for Jonathan Taylor’s long touchdown run, it’s not too hard to see why.
Top 5 PFF grades on defense (min. 20 snaps)
- Blake Cashman — 94.3
- Kyle Van Noy — 89.7
- Harrison Smith — 84.8
- Levi Drake Rodriguez — 83.9
- Byron Murphy Jr. — 78.7
Cashman was simply unbelievable on Sunday. 12 tackles, two sacks, four pressures, four pass breakups. He was everywhere. Van Noy had another TFL and was constantly visible when he was on the field. Smith had half a sack and sealed the win with his 40th career interception. Rodriguez was outstanding against the run. Murphy was strong in coverage.
Redmond, Turner, Jackson, and Rodgers all earned grades above 69 as well. The lowest grades among qualified players went to Wilson and Van Ginkel. Orange and Banks also earned poor grades on their limited snaps.
