“Baywatch” is bringing sunshine to the winter, as Fox’s reboot of the blockbuster beach series will premiere on Jan. 6 at 9 p.m.
The continuation of the 1990s sensation stars Stephen Amell as a grown-up version of Hobie Buchannon, the wild child from the original series. The show follows Hobie, now a Baywatch Captain, following in the footsteps of his father, Mitch, while his world is turned upside down by the surprise arrival of Charlie (Jessica Belkin), the daughter he never knew. Eager to carry on the family legacy, Charlie strives to become a Baywatch lifeguard alongside her dad.
Shay Mitchell, Brooks Nader, Hassie Harrison, Livvy Dunne, Noah Beck, David Chokachi and Thaddeus LaGrone star alongside Amell and Belkin. Ashley Moore, Luke Eisner, Nadia Gray, Kylar Miranda, and Charlie McElveen appear in recurring cast roles, and hip-hop star Megan Thee Stallion also makes an appearance.
The “Baywatch” reboot was picked up for the 2026-2027 broadcast season by Fox back in September 2025 with a 12-episode order. The series held an open casting call in early 2026 and began production in Los Angeles in the spring.
The original “Baywatch” series debuted in 1989 and was, at its peak, the most-watched show in the world, airing in over 200 countries. The ensemble cast included David Hasselhoff as head lifeguard Mitch Buchannon and helped launch the acting careers of stars like Pamela Anderson and Carmen Electra. The show also spawned the spinoff “Baywatch Nights” and, in 2017, was rebooted as a failed feature film starring Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron.
The reboot is executive produced by showrunner Matt Nix alongside McG, Michael Berk, Greg Bonann, Doug Schwartz, Dante Di Loreto and Mike Horowitz. McG also directed the premiere episode. The series is co-produced by Fox Entertainment and Fremantle.
