LAHORE: A court has extended the interim bail of Ahmed Tanveer, the main accused in the rape case involving a foreign woman named Diana, for another 10 days despite his failure to join the investigation, police said.
According to police, the accused had obtained protective bail from the Peshawar High Court on October 9, under which the police were barred from arresting him.
He later secured interim bail from a sessions court in Lahore on October 15. The court directed him to join the investigation between October 15 and October 23.
However, the accused did not join the investigation even once during the 10-day period, sources said.
Police said they had provided the court with the necessary evidence to support the accused’s arrest. The evidence included a request for the recovery of a mobile phone and a weapon, along with a plea to cancel his bail.
On October 23, police requested the cancellation of the accused’s bail because he had failed to join the investigation despite the court’s orders.
The case includes charges of rape, kidnapping, robbery, destruction of evidence and criminal intimidation.
Despite the accused’s failure to join the investigation, the court extended his bail for another 10 days.
Earlier, Foreign woman Diana sought the withdrawal of a rape case and declared accused Ahmed Tanveer innocent in her first video statement, saying he neither raped her nor took her mobile phones.
In her video statement, Diana said Ahmed Tanveer had no involvement in the alleged rape. She also claimed that she had given her earlier statements under pressure.
Diana also declared Ahmed Tanveer innocent through a document from the Azerbaijan embassy.
Meanwhile, police arrested Ahmed Tanveer despite the approval of his interim bail.
