A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the Diaspora, Ambassador Odion Kessington Oriaifo, has called on individuals he described as rabble-rousers and social media noise makers to desist from actions capable of causing chaos, deepening divisions and drawing Edo state back to what he called its dark and gory days.
Oriaifo, who made the call in a viral video, said Governor Monday Okpebholo was focused on delivering development to the state and correcting what he described as the anomalies of the immediate past administration of former governor, Godwin Obaseki.
He maintained that the present administration must be allowed to concentrate on governance and development, rather than being distracted by what he characterised as politically motivated attacks and attempts to discredit the government.
The APC chieftain described the Obaseki administration as a gory period in the history of Edo state, alleging that the period was characterised by massive fraud, insecurity, cultism and other challenges.
According to him, the Okpebholo administration was now working to address those challenges, even as evidence abounded in the prevailing peace in Edo state, as kidnappers and cultists had been shown the way out of Edo state.
Oriaifo argued that the prevailing political atmosphere required constructive engagement and support for the state’s development agenda, rather than the promotion of divisive narratives capable of undermining the government’s efforts.
Commenting on the activities of the former governor since leaving office, Oriaifo alleged that Obaseki had been travelling from one country to another to organise conferences aimed at discrediting the Okpebholo administration.
He questioned why the former governor did not organise similar conferences to promote unity among the people of Edo state during his tenure, particularly when the state was grappling with divisions.
The APC chieftain also questioned the credibility of investment summits organised under the previous administration, alleging that they were scams rather than genuine platforms for attracting meaningful investments to the state.
He further alleged that massive fraud characterised the Obaseki government, describing it as an administration that failed to meet the expectations of the people.
