TAIZ — Fighting intensified across several frontlines in Yemen on Monday as airstrikes targeted Houthi positions west of Taiz, government forces announced new territorial gains, and two ballistic missiles launched by the Iran-backed Houthi militia landed near camps for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Aden.
According to local media reports, eight airstrikes struck Houthi military sites and fortifications in the western outskirts of Taiz city. The attacks targeted positions in the areas of Tabab Al-Saleh, Al-Khazzan, and Al-Hayaj, as well as sites and gatherings around Jabal Han and the Al-Dhabab district.
The air raids coincided with ongoing clashes along the western front of Taiz, one of Yemen's longest-running battle zones.
In a separate battlefield development, government forces announced they had seized control of Tebat Al-Maidan, a strategic elevated position overlooking the Al-Dhabab area west of Taiz.
Military officials said the advance was aimed at strengthening government defensive and offensive positions on the western front, where confrontations with Houthi fighters have continued in recent weeks.
Meanwhile, in the southern port city of Aden, Yemeni Minister of Information Muammar Al-Eryani reported that two ballistic missiles launched by the Houthi militia landed near camps housing displaced families in the Salah Al-Din area.
Al-Eryani warned that the incident posed a serious threat to hundreds of families living in the camps, stressing that the proximity of the missiles to populated areas and displacement sites placed civilians at heightened risk.
"The fall of ballistic missiles near residential areas and displacement camps exposes civilians, particularly women and children, to grave dangers," Al-Eryani said, calling for urgent measures to protect displaced communities and hold those responsible for targeting areas surrounding IDP camps accountable.
