Zee Nxumalo has set tongues wagging after casually revealing details about her ethnic background that many of her fans were unaware of, and the internet has been divided ever since.
Fresh from her international tour, the rising star visited Cool FM Lagos on 22 October 2026 as part of her push into the West African music market. During the live radio session, the hosts took notice of her features and asked directly whether she had Asian heritage. Zee did not hesitate, giving a candid and concise answer.
"I'm half Indian, half Swati," she told the presenters.
The studio team responded warmly to the disclosure, praising her heritage and commenting on how her mixed background influences both her appearance and her artistic identity. For many Southern African fans, Zee has always been associated with her Swazi-South African roots, so the mention of Indian lineage offered a fresh layer to her story as she steps onto bigger international stages.
The moment resonated widely, partly because Zee delivered the revelation so matter-of-factly, as though it were something she had simply never been asked about before.

Some fans are not convinced
Not everyone took the disclosure at face value, though. A portion of the comment section pushed back, with some peeps laughing off the claim and suggesting Zee was having a bit of fun with the Lagos interviewers rather than sharing a genuine piece of her background.

"Since when is Zee Nxumalo half-Indian?"
Babyboo was not convinced:
"This must be ragebait."
Ferida Ndlovu said:
"Why is she lying?"
Lunga joked:
"Next month she will be half Chinese."
Whether sceptics come around or not, Zee's Lagos appearance has undeniably sparked fresh curiosity about the woman behind the music, and that kind of conversation is rarely a bad thing for an artist making moves on the continent.
