Politicians like Stephen Morgan can explain everything, justify everything, and admit to nothing
Why is the country the way that it is? Part of the answer is Stephen Morgan. It’s not just his fault, obviously. In fact, as we’ll learn, nothing is his fault, not even the things that are his responsibility. But Morgan is a perfect example of the junior ministerial class, who can explain anything, defend anything, but not, sadly, fix anything.
Stephen Morgan is a Labour MP, but he can be found on every front bench. I’ve seen Tory Morgans and Lib Dem Morgans. Holyrood and Cardiff have plenty of Morgans. This isn’t to suggest that he’s not a Labour man through and through. I’m sure he believes passionately in Andy Burnham’s Labour Party, as he did in Keir Starmer’s Labour Party and indeed he did, when he was first elected in 2017, in Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour Party.
