Deployment Locations and Allocation
The positions are distributed with particular concentration in arid and semi-arid regions.
Baringo, Turkana, Wajir, and the Tana River each receive the highest allocation of 28 mentors per county, reflecting the intensity of poverty graduation needs in those areas.
Counties including Kisumu, Migori, Makueni, Murang'a, Taita Taveta, and Marsabit each host either one or two sub-counties in the programme, with 14 mentors assigned per sub-county.
Specific deployment sites span locations such as Loitwat and Barpello in Baringo's Kolowa sub-county, Ngisiger and Kaeris in Turkana North, Onjiko in Nyando, Masongaleni in Kibwezi, and Malabot in Marsabit's North Horr sub-county, among others.
Who Can Apply
Candidates targeting the mentor role must hold at least a mean grade of C-minus at the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education level.
A diploma in social work, education, psychology, or a related discipline will strengthen an application, though it is not mandatory.
Applicants must also demonstrate experience working with youth or vulnerable populations and are expected to show strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and a clean ethical record.
The mentor supervisor role carries stricter academic requirements.
Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Education, Psychology, or a comparable field, supported by at least one year of practical experience in mentorship, youth programmes, or community work.
Additional knowledge of safeguarding principles, gender equality and social inclusion, and monitoring and evaluation frameworks will be required.
How to Submit an Application
All applications must be submitted online through the State Department's official portal.
The deadline for submissions is November 17, 2026. The State Department has indicated that only shortlisted applicants will be contacted and invited to appear before interview and recruitment panels in person.
The ministry has confirmed that the contracts will not be extended beyond the 15-month term, and applicants are advised to factor that into their planning before submitting.
