Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have neutralised eight suspected terrorists and rescued three kidnapped victims during coordinated operations in Katsina, Kaduna and Zamfara states.
The operations, conducted on October 24 and 25, also led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, three locally fabricated guns, three motorcycles, cutlasses and assorted charms.
In a statement on Monday, the operation’s Media Information Officer, Captain Tamuno Sinivie, said troops of Sector One responded to a distress call from farmers at Machika Dam in Sabuwa Local Government Area of Katsina State on Saturday, October 24.
The farmers had reported terrorist activities in the area, prompting troops to mobilise and engage the suspected terrorists in a gun battle.
Two suspects were killed, while others fled. The troops also rescued a 42-year-old kidnap victim, identified as Suleiman Umar, and recovered an AK-47 rifle with a magazine containing ammunition and a motorcycle.
In a separate operation on the same day, troops of Sector One, working with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), foiled a terrorist ambush along Ungwan Iya in Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing six suspected terrorists.
According to the statement, the troops had responded to reports of an attack on Ungwan Mallami village, where the suspected terrorists fled with two kidnapped victims.
While pursuing the assailants, the troops came under attack but responded with superior firepower, neutralising six suspects and forcing others to flee.
The troops recovered three locally fabricated guns, two motorcycles, cutlasses and assorted charms during the operation.
Meanwhile, troops of Sector Two rescued two kidnapped men during a surveillance operation in Bagega, Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State, on Sunday, October 25.

The victims were identified as Shehu Chete, 40, and Bugu Bedi, 25, both indigenes of Kebbi State.
The military said troops spotted suspected terrorist activity and launched a fighting patrol, forcing the suspects to flee and abandon the victims.
The rescued men were taken to Bagega Clinic for medical attention before being moved to a military base for further assessment and eventual reunion with their families.
Sinivie said troops were sustaining patrols and search operations across the affected areas to apprehend fleeing suspects, rescue other abducted persons and prevent further attacks.
The Theatre Commander of Operation FANSAN YAMMA commended the troops for their gallantry and urged residents to provide timely and credible information to support ongoing security operations.
