When Dan Orlovsky brought up percentages on “The Pat McAfee Show,” he probably didn’t expect to give the crew enough material to tease him about for the foreseeable future.
The ESPN analyst shared a story about learning what “percent” actually means during a conversation about Joe Burrow’s sack rate. McAfee could barely believe what he was hearing, and viewers weren’t much kinder.
Pat McAfee Can’t Believe Dan Orlovsky’s Confusion
Orlovsky began his story by explaining that ESPN researcher Paul Hembekides recently mentioned Burrow getting sacked on 4% of his dropbacks. When Orlovsky asked him to break that number down, Hembekides explained it as four sacks per 100 dropbacks.
“And I said, is that really what it is? Like it’s always out of a hundred?” Orlovsky recalled asking.
He tried to clarify that he knew 1% meant one out of 100. The connection between “per” and “cent” had surprised him, though, and his explanation only made the admission more awkward.
McAfee wasn’t about to let that one slide.
“I appreciate you leaving no stone unturned, but that’s tough, dude,” McAfee said. “That’s a tough one, especially with, like, how much you talk about stuff that revolves around percentages.”
Orlovsky added, “I didn’t know it was only out of a hundred… I’m not a big numbers and percentages person, though, unless they make sense to me.”
McAfee and his crew weren’t going to let the ESPN analyst live that one down, and fans were just as quick to pile on.

One viewer offered the advice Orlovsky probably could have used before sharing the story.
“Dan should have kept that to himself,”they wrote.
“This is kind of embarrassing for you and anyone not knowing what percent means,”another fan added.
“This might top him stepping out of the back of the end zone,”one viewer joked, referring to Orlovsky’s infamous mistake of running out the back of his own end zone while playing for the Detroit Lions.
“The entire Chinese military couldn’t get me to say this in front of a live audience,”another fan wrote.

“This is the most mortifying thing I’ve ever heard someone admit on national TV intentionally. It makes me question literally everything he’s ever said,”one user posted.
“There is just absolutely no [expletive] way. He’s an analyst?”another wrote.
“Brother, you went to UConn… That’s basic math,”one viewer added.
One reaction even turned the moment into an MVP voting joke.
“This man had an MVP vote last year, and now we know why Maye didn’t win,”a fan wrote alongside a face palm emoji.
Orlovsky may have thought he was sharing a harmless discovery, but he ended up giving McAfee and NFL fans a story they won’t forget anytime soon.
