HAVANA TIMES – Anyone who steps out onto the street knows what they are going to find, even though it may seem as if we are living in an unfamiliar city, one we never imagined. The deterioration of its streets and buildings is so severe, and its citizens are so overcome with despair that the city seems almost unrecognizable.
“It’s frightening to think that things will keep changing,” a friend says. But what else can we expect when everything continues to deteriorate, as if there were no possible solution? The truth is that people are living on the edge.
I feel sorry for the elderly and the children. The elderly have awakened to a real-life nightmare, while the children have no idea what the future holds for them.
Most people believe the only real solution is to flee the island, leaving behind their homes and loved ones. It is deeply sad that a system shows so little concern for the rights of its own children.
I leave you with these photographs so that you can judge for yourselves. One of them shows an abandoned building that once housed a technical school. For some time now, families have been living there—people who had nowhere else to go.
