The Delta State Government has approved an extension of the retirement age for skilled clinical health professionals in government hospitals from 60 to 65 years.
The policy, approved by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, also raises the length of service from 35 to 40 years, whichever comes first.
The state government announced the approval in a post on its official X account, saying the measure covers 26 cadres of skilled clinical health professionals actively engaged in clinical services in government hospitals across the state.
The policy is aimed at addressing manpower shortages, retaining experienced medical personnel and strengthening healthcare delivery.
Under the new arrangement, eligible officers are required to apply through their Chief Medical Directors six months before reaching 60 years of age or completing 35 years of service.
Applicants will also be required to undergo medical fitness screening by the state Ministry of Health.
The government said the extension applies only to clinical health professionals working in government hospitals and excludes personnel serving in ministries and extra-ministerial departments.
