KUALA LUMPUR: Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul is disappointed with Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan's (PN-Kota Baru) decision to make his mediation proposal public without waiting for a response from him.
Johari said he had earlier given Takiyuddin until last Thursday to withdraw his remark involving the word "munafik", following a complaint by RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong).
Johari said Takiyuddin then sent him a letter stating that he was unwilling to withdraw the remark and proposing mediation involving the Speaker, Rayer and himself.
He said the letter was received about 5pm that day, but he only read it the following day.
"I find it rather disappointing. When he wrote to me, he should have given me an opportunity to respond first, whether I agreed with his proposal or not.
"Instead, he made it public, putting me in a rather difficult position by pressuring me to respond," he said.
It was previously reported that Rayer raised the issue after Takiyuddin cited a hadith on the three traits of a hypocrite – lying when speaking, breaking promises and betraying trust – during the 2027 Budget debate.
Johari had asked Takiyuddin to withdraw the word, either in the House or through a letter to him.
