A partly mummified body was found in a residential area of Seoul's Guro District, and police have arrested two men on suspicion of dumping the remains.
Guro Police Station received a report at about 11 a.m. on the 27th that a body had been found at a garbage collection point in a residential neighborhood, police said the same day. Officers tracked down the suspects and placed two men, one in his 60s and the other in his 80s, under emergency arrest. The two are suspected of abandoning the body on the 22nd.
Police applied a charge of abandoning a body to the man in his 60s and a charge of soliciting the abandonment of a body to the man in his 80s. The two know each other, and the man in his 80s is said to be the owner of a low-rise multi-unit housing building in Guro District. "Further investigation is needed to determine the relationship between the deceased and the two men," a police official said.
The body was discovered by a district office worker collecting garbage. It was wrapped in plastic and newspaper and had partly decomposed and dried out, according to accounts. Police have requested an examination by the National Forensic Service to confirm the identity of the deceased and the cause of death.
