(ANSA) - ROME, 26 OTT - Italy registered significant improvements in its well-being indicators last year but the risk of poverty remains much higher than the EU average, Istat said on Monday in its annual Equitable and Sustainable Well-being (BES) report.
The national statistics agency said there was an improvement in 54 of the 132 indicators that make up the index, with 55 remaining stable and 23 worsening.
But it added that the risk-of-poverty rate in Italy for 2025 was 18.6%, 2.3 percentage points more than the EU average.
It said Italy has strengths in health and in security but faces challenges in the areas of education and training, employment and work-life balance, and innovation, research, and creativity.
The report said that in 2025 life expectancy in Italy was 83.7 years, the highest level ever and up by 0.2 of a year on 2024 and from 82.6 years in 2014.
Life expectancy for men was 81.7 years while it was 85.7 for women. (ANSA).
