The OK Movement has underscored the importance of grassroots mobilisation, strategic planning and organisational capacity in determining the success of political campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The OK Movement (short for the Obi–Kwankwaso Movement) is a Nigerian political coalition and grassroots initiative.
It was inaugurated to mobilise support for a joint ticket featuring Peter Obi as president and Rabiu Kwankwaso as vice president of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the 2027 elections.
The movement’s national director-general, John Ughulu, said this in a statement made available in Abuja on Monday.
Mr Ughulu noted that effective electioneering requires adequate preparation, functional structures, and coordinated mobilisation, not just appointing campaign officials.
He said political organisations needed to build strong grassroots networks and develop strategies to reach voters nationwide.
According to him, the timing of campaign preparations is important, particularly as political parties and support groups intensify activities ahead of the general elections.
Mr Ughulu said the OK movement had prioritised organisational development and grassroots coordination, describing these as essential components of a successful electoral campaign.
He added that the movement had continued to build its structures in preparation for the forthcoming elections.
The director-general said the movement believed that political ambition should be supported by the capacity to mobilise supporters, coordinate activities and sustain engagement with voters.
He noted that campaign councils and prominent political figures were important but needed functional structures and effective mobilisation strategies to back them.
Mr Ughulu emphasised that the movement remained committed to demonstrating the value of organised grassroots participation in the country’s electoral process.
He also said its organisational experience could contribute to broader political mobilisation ahead of the elections.
The director-general, however, said the movement expected political organisations to recognise the importance of established structures and sustained preparation in their electoral engagements.
He reiterated the movement’s commitment to its political objectives, saying it would continue to strengthen its coordination and mobilisation efforts.
Mr Ughulu also reaffirmed the movement’s position that effective leadership in electioneering depended on preparation, organisation and the ability to translate political support into coordinated action.
He said the movement remained ready to contribute to efforts to achieve its political objectives ahead of the 2027 polls.
