A case has been filed against five people, including a director and head teacher of a madrasa, over the alleged abduction of an eighth-grade student in Gazipur.
The girl was rescued by police within two hours after her father filed the case with Joydebpur Police Station last night, accusing madrasa director Ariful Islam, 29, as the prime accused.
The four other accused are Ariful’s brother Sharif Mia, 35; their father Selim Mia, 55; their mother Rahima Khatun, 40; and Delwar Hossain, 45.
Joydebpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Al Mamun confirmed the information to The Daily Star.
According to the first information report (FIR), all the accused are residents of Char Bawla village under Mymensingh Sadar Police Station.
The girl was a student at a girls’ madrasa run by Ariful.
The FIR alleges that Ariful had harassed the girl in various ways while trying to establish a personal relationship with her. After being rejected, he allegedly threatened to abduct her.
After the girl informed her family, they asked Ariful to refrain from such activities. Enraged, he allegedly continued to intimidate and threaten the girl and her family, according to the FIR.
The FIR further states that the girl went to the madrasa on the morning of October 10, after which Ariful allegedly took her away with the help of his associates.
After learning about the incident, the girl’s father searched several possible locations. Failing to find her, he filed the case with the police.
OC Mamun said that the madrasa teacher had allegedly lured the girl away and police operations were underway to arrest the accused.
