The scanner supports Wi-Fi 6, dynamic tracking and measurement accuracy starting at 0.06 mm at 3.2 m.
Hexagon’s Portable Metrology Division has introduced HYPERSCAN SR, a wireless optical-tracking 3D scanner for measurements on the shop floor, at supplier sites and in field environments. The system combines wireless operation, dynamic tracking and a portable design.
Industrial engineering teams increasingly inspect parts at their production or service locations instead of moving them to a measurement room. Optical tracking maintains the measurement reference when parts or surrounding equipment move. HYPERSCAN SR uses dynamic optical tracking to place the scanner and part in the same coordinate system, helping maintain scan stability during movement or vibration.
HYPERSCAN SR includes Wi-Fi 6 connectivity and swappable batteries in the scanner and tracker. The system does not require a tethered wireless accessory or cable routing. It requires limited setup and can be operated by users without specialized metrology training. During scanning, dynamic tracking follows the part and scanner together to maintain the measurement reference when movement or vibration occurs.
Target-free wide-area scanning supports small and medium-sized parts such as welded machine frames, cast housings, tooling, fixtures and vehicle interiors. The system offers multiple scanning modes with speeds of up to 4 million points per second, as well as hole-flash capture and edge detection. The scanner weighs 1.3 kg without its battery and includes on-device controls and voice-assistant support. Point clouds can be exported in STL and other common file formats, with one-click data transfer to Geomagic or PolyWorks.
HYPERSCAN SR is the entry-level model in the HYPERSCAN series, which also includes HYPERSCAN Ultra and HYPERSCAN Super. HYPERSCAN Super provides additional range for larger parts and automated inspection cells. HYPERSCAN SR is calibrated in an ISO 17025-accredited laboratory and captures measurement data certified to VDI/VDE 2634-3, with volumetric accuracy starting at 0.06 mm at 3.2 m. The scanner can be integrated with robotic automation systems through a standardized integrator kit. All three HYPERSCAN models use the same workflow and coordinate system.
HYPERSCAN SR is designed for on-site and field inspection, supplier and incoming-goods quality checks, field service, maintenance and overhaul, tooling and fixture inspection and decentralized quality control. Potential applications include automotive, rail, energy, construction, general manufacturing, industrial equipment and consumer products.
