Dallas Cowboys fans were treated to an unwelcome visual during Monday Night Football, as owner Jerry Jones took in their win against the Philadelphia Eagles with Stephen A. Smith.
Smith has made his disdain for the Cowboys no secret, often mocking and poking fun at them for several years whenever things went poorly for them.
Because of this, Cowboys fans have never liked Smith and have considered him someone who doesn’t have the team’s best interests at heart.
Dallas Cowboys fans can’t believe Stephen A. Smith was on ‘his best behaviour’ with Jerry Jones
During the Monday Night Football broadcast, ESPN cameras turned to the owners’ suite at Lincoln Financial Field, where Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was sitting next to and speaking with Stephen A. Smith.
Smith and Jones were together watching the Cowboys beat the Philadelphia Eagles in what was a crucial divisional battle between two NFC East powerhouses.
Given Smith’s long history of criticising the Dallas Cowboys, fans wondered why Jones would welcome the ESPN analyst into his private box.
One fan wrote: “This is why I don’t even believe in his hate for the Cowboys. He loves them, he just gets paid to troll them.”
Another fan added: “No wonder he didn’t make a video laughing at them after their last loss.” Similarly, a third Cowboys fan lamented: “As a Cowboys fan, I hate to see it.”
A fourth fan pointed out a recent pattern from Smith: “One day he’s with the President who he has been critical of, and tonight he’s with the owner of the Cowboys who he’s been super critical of. I call that a hypocrite.”
A fifth fan wanted to be a fly on the wall for their conversation: “Forget the game. Somebody needs to put a microphone in that suite.”
And lastly, one final Cowboys fan had a scathing critique for the team’s owner: “Jerry cares more about Stephen A. liking him than his team winning.”
This is far from the first interaction Smith and Jones have had over the last few years. Very recently, Smith even interviewed Jones in Brazil ahead of the Cowboys’ game in Rio, and has spoken about their connection multiple times in the past.
While it is understandable for Smith to be connected to Jones, many Cowboys fans will be frustrated that their owner is in such close contact with one of their most famous and most vocal critics.
