Bayern Munich will meet Real Madrid on Wednesay evening, in their third UEFA Women’s Champions League league phase match at Uhlsport Park.
Jose Barcala’s Bayern side sit fourth in the UWCL standings after drawing 2-2 with Manchester City in their opening fixture and then taking a dominant 3-0 win against Benfica last month. Meanwhile, Real Madrid have had a subpar start to their UWCL campaign, sitting just above the elimination places in 12th following 1-1 draws against both PSG and Manchester City, making tomorrow evening’s fixture a crucial one for Pau Quesada’s side.
Bayern Munich have also had an impressive start to their league season, going unbeaten in the Frauen-Bundesliga this season, scoring 29 goals and conceding just seven to sit at the top of the table on 24 points. This run also means that Die Roten have extended their overall unbeaten streak in the league to an impressive 50 consecutive matches.
Las Blancas, on the other hand, currently sit second in Liga F, having lost just one of their previous five fixtures. Last time out, late goals from Felicia Schroder and Signe Bruun allowed Real Madrid to claim a 3-2 victory over UD Tenerife.
Klara Buhl has proven to be an integral part of Bayern Munich’s squad over the years, with this season being no different. The German has accumulated 58 goals and 86 assists across seven seasons with the club, and Buhl has scored nine and assisted seven times across all competitions so far this season, including twice in the UWCL.
Following her signing from BK Haken in the summer, Schroder has showcased that she is a dominant goalscorer for Real Madrid, with the 19-year-old having scored 10 goals and assisted twice in 10 matches for Las Blancas.
Tomorrow evening will mark the first competitive clash between the clubs, with Bayern picking up an emphatic 4-1 victory over the Spanish outfit in August last year. Arianna Caruso will be reunited with her former club for the first time since moving to the Spanish capital in the summer, a reunion that gives the first-time fixture a personal touch.
Kick-off is scheduled for 5:45 pm BST on Wednesday, October 28th and will be broadcast live on Disney+.
