Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on Monday stressed the importance of localising the manufacturing of equipment used in drinking water and sanitation projects, and enhancing partnerships with the private sector to support water security and the sustainability of services.
He made the remarks while touring the pavilions of participating companies following the opening of the fifth International Water, Wastewater, Desalination, and Waste Management Exhibition and Conference (IWWI 2026), held under the auspices of the Ministry of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities at the Cairo International Conference Centre in Nasr City from October 26 to 28.
Accompanied by Minister of Housing Randa El-Menshawy and other officials, Madbouly called for expanding the local production of electromechanical equipment and water treatment technologies. He highlighted the need to utilise the latest technological solutions to raise operational efficiency, rationalise energy and water consumption, and lower operational costs.
Al-Minshawi stated that the exhibition represents an important opportunity to support local manufacturing, transfer modern technology, and open new avenues for investment and the exchange of expertise with specialised global companies to support the state’s plans for expanding water, wastewater, desalination, and reuse projects.
During the tour, Madbouly reviewed the latest technical solutions across various industry sectors. At the Utility & Positioning Systems (UPS) pavilion, he examined digital transformation solutions for utility infrastructure, smart leak detection, and local inventions designed to detect surface water sources and reduce carbon emissions in water plants.
The Prime Minister also visited the Tayseer International Chemical pavilion, where he was briefed on the local manufacturing of polyaluminium chloride (PAC) used in water purification, aiming to reduce reliance on imported products.
At the Ministry of Military Production’s pavilion, Madbouly reviewed water treatment equipment, pumps, and new technologies for extracting water from the air. He then toured the ACWA Power Egypt pavilion to examine seawater desalination and renewable energy operations, focusing on energy efficiency in desalination.
The tour also included Iskraemeco, an El Sewedy Electric subsidiary, showcasing smart metering and energy management technologies, and the BMC pavilion, which presented glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) manhole covers and stormwater drains. At the El-Namaky Group for Electrical Industries pavilion, he reviewed mechanical and prepaid water meters, electrical control panels, and pumps.
Madbouly also inspected the Ministry of Housing’s pavilion, which Al-Minshawi noted reflects the integration among the ministry’s affiliated bodies, spanning planning, execution, and consumer protection.
The Prime Minister concluded with a review of the Greater Cairo Sanitary Drainage Company’s operations. The company serves over 15 m citizens through a 6,000-kilometre network, encompassing roughly 100 pumping stations and four treatment plants.
