KUANTAN: Pahang recorded RM10.95 billion in exports in the first eight months of this year, highlighting the state's potential for further growth.
Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) chief executive officer Datuk Abu Bakar Yusof said the state remained resilient, supported by strong economic fundamentals and promising growth prospects.
"Exports of machinery and transport equipment surged 412.8 per cent in the first eight months of this year compared with the same period last year, while fuels and lubricants grew 47.9 per cent and food products increased 15.8 per cent.
"These figures present opportunities to diversify Pahang's export base and enable more local entrepreneurs to participate in international trade," he said at the 2026 Pahang Export Day.
The second edition of the event was opened by Pahang Investment, Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Nizar Najib.
Abu Bakar said Kuantan remained a key driver of Pahang's economy, supported by its services, trade, logistics and petrochemical sectors.
"Each district has its own strengths, with Bentong contributing through tourism and agrofood, while Temerloh continues to grow through trade and aquaculture.
"Cameron Highlands is known for its highland agriculture, Raub for premium durian production and Pekan for its automotive industry. Plantation, fisheries and ecotourism activities also contribute to the state's economic diversity," he said.
He said Pahang could translate these district-level strengths into broader export opportunities by adding value to locally produced goods, enhancing the competitiveness of micro, small and medium enterprises, and connecting local products with international buyers.
