Jakarta (ANTARA) - Japanese energy company Inpex has completed the front-end engineering design (FEED) for the Abadi Masela liquefied natural gas (LNG) project three months ahead of its original year-end target, finalizing the phase in October.
Head of the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas (SKK Migas) Djoko Siswanto stated that the milestone accelerates the development of the US$22 billion strategic project.
"Thank God, it was finished three months early—completed in October," Djoko said during a ceremony in Jakarta on Tuesday, adding that authorities hope to reach the final investment decision (FID) by late 2026 or January 2027 at the latest.
Kenji Hasegawa, president director of Inpex Masela Ltd., noted that the completed FEED encompasses four main components: subsea facilities and pipelines (SURF), a gas export pipeline, a floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit, as well as onshore LNG facilities.
"With the FEED now complete, we are focusing on the next stages: moving toward the engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) phase and the FID," Hasegawa stated.
The Abadi Masela project, located in the Masela Block, Tanimbar Islands, Maluku, is designed to achieve a gas production capacity of 1,380 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) and an LNG output target of 9.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA).
Additionally, the project will supply 100 MMSCFD of pipeline gas for domestic needs and yield 35,000 barrels of condensate per day.
Construction officially commenced following a groundbreaking ceremony by President Prabowo Subianto on July 16, with commercial gas production targeted for 2030 to bolster Indonesia’s national energy security.
