Construction on the Sukkur-Karachi Motorway will begin next month, Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan said while addressing the business community at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The project will comprise three approved sections and extend high-speed road access to Karachi Port, according to the minister. The development is aimed at improving connectivity and facilitating the movement of goods to and from the port.
Khan did not provide a detailed construction schedule or specify when the entire motorway would become operational.
During his address, the minister also outlined financial reforms at the National Highway Authority (NHA), saying the authority was working to increase its revenue from Rs. 66 billion to Rs. 160 billion. He said administrative expenses had been capped at Rs. 50 billion to direct more funds toward infrastructure development.
The minister said the authority was prioritizing major road projects across the country to strengthen national connectivity while improving its financial position.
He also assured business leaders that the Ministry of Communications would maintain engagement with the private sector and work to resolve concerns affecting trade and commercial activity.
