CALGARY – WestJet says it has signed a codeshare partnership with Qatar Airways that will make it easier to travel to Doha.
Under the agreement, WestJet will start by placing its airline code on Qatar Airways’ non-stop flights to Doha from Toronto and Montreal.
Passengers travelling on codeshare itineraries will benefit from co-ordinated connections, the ability to earn WestJet loyalty rewards on their full trip and through-checked baggage.
Qatar Airways will place its code on select WestJet-operated flights from Toronto and Montreal.
The agreement will allow Qatar Airways passengers to connect to 11 Canadian destinations, including Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, St. Johns, N.L., and Winnipeg.
WestJet says it plans to place its code on select destinations beyond Doha as part of a future phase.

Dustin Byfuglien gets warm welcome at alumni game

To say that Dustin Byfuglien wasn’t a fan of the spotlight is an understatement of epic proportions.
The guy with the personality that was larger than life preferred to keep that side of him mostly contained behind the hallowed halls of the Winnipeg Jets locker room.
Since he unexpectedly stepped away from the game in the fall of 2019, Byfuglien has limited his rare interviews to discussions about fishing, happily leaving the NHL game in his rearview mirror.
But on Saturday morning, there was Byfuglien standing in the newly-renovated Jets’ dressing room, holding court with a group of reporters hanging on his every word prior to the alumni game that was part of the 2026 Heritage Classic.
The right to a private life is a fundamental human need — that is not in dispute. However, our current practices of privacy, particularly when it comes to privacy for children, are a recipe for deprivation, an unintended consequence of our otherwise good intentions.

RURAL MUNICIPALITY OF MACDONALD — Tim Muys wants Heebie Jeebies to be legendary.
The first evidence is the latest maze at the annual Halloween attraction, which Muys and his wife, Michelle, operate just southwest of Winnipeg in the RM of Macdonald: “Legends of Horror” puts visitors face-to-face with iconic movie antagonists such as Leatherface, Michael Myers and Freddy Krueger.
But further evidence can be found in Muys’ ambitions for Heebie Jeebies. With 3,400-plus five-star Google reviews and more than 30,000 visitors annually, Muys advertises the business as “Canada’s No. 1 privately owned Halloween attraction.” His vision is to build a second location in Calgary and then a third in Edmonton.
Between the populations of those two cities, plus the surrounding communities, he believes Heebie Jeebies would draw a significant crowd every fall. By his estimation, it would put the business on the map as one of the largest Halloween attractions in the world.
What does it truly mean to welcome someone to Canada? Is saying that newcomers belong here enough, or should we also ensure they have a fair opportunity to create a stable life? In Winnipeg, welcoming immigrants and refugees should involve more than simply opening the door. It should also involve helping people get settled after they arrive.
