WHO is at fault when a motorcycle crashes into the back of a car? A video circulating on social media has prompted debate among Malaysians after showing a motorcyclist colliding with the rear of a Proton Saga.
The video, uploaded on Threads by user @thaqibbinshaker, has raised questions about road safety, safe following distances and the responsibility of motorists to remain alert while driving.
One user, @muhammadfirdhaus, argued that motorcyclists should maintain a safe distance from vehicles in front despite being able to weave through traffic. He also urged riders not to let their egos or selfishness compromise road safety.
Another user, @brader_wan87, suggested that the motorcyclist should not have been travelling too fast in such a situation, while @izhurr said the rider was at fault but questioned whether an insurance claim could still be made.
The importance of maintaining a safe distance was also emphasised by @syikin_nikiysa, who lamented that many motorists failed to leave enough space between their vehicles and those ahead.
Meanwhile, @rakuzchoy questioned what had happened before the collision, asking whether the Proton Saga had stopped because of traffic congestion or for another reason.
While some commenters were quick to blame the motorcyclist for failing to maintain a safe following distance, the circumstances leading to the collision remain unclear based on the information available.
Nevertheless, the video has renewed an important question among road users: who do you think was in the wrong?
