With a focus on minimum wage revision, labour welfare and the effective implementation of labour laws, Labour Minister Tinku Roy on Monday chaired a key meeting of the State Advisory Board at the Labour Directorate office on Office Lane in Agartala. The meeting discussed a range of issues related to safeguarding workers' rights and improving the socio-economic conditions of the state's workforce.
The meeting was attended by MLA Abhishek Debroy along with members of the State Advisory Board and senior officials connected with the Labour Department. Deliberations centred on recommendations to be placed before the state government regarding minimum wage fixation and revision, workers' entitlements and the implementation of provisions under labour laws and labour codes.
Addressing the meeting, the Labour Minister said the board plays an important role in advising the government on labour-related matters, particularly those concerning wage policies and workers' welfare. He stressed that ensuring the dignity, rights and welfare of workers remains a priority and that concerted efforts are required to improve the living standards of labourers across different sectors.
The discussions also focused on creating a fair and balanced work environment, strengthening social security measures for workers and ensuring that the benefits of government policies effectively reach the labour community. Participants examined ways to enhance labour administration and improve the enforcement of labour laws to safeguard the interests of workers.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Abhishek Debroy highlighted the importance of periodic review of minimum wages and emphasised the need to protect the legitimate rights of workers. He also underlined the significance of effective implementation of labour codes and welfare measures aimed at improving the overall condition of the working population.
Officials said the meeting provided a platform for board members and government representatives to review key labour issues and formulate recommendations that would assist the government in future policy decisions. The suggestions emerging from the meeting are expected to guide the state's approach towards wage revision, labour welfare initiatives and the strengthening of workers' rights and protections.
