He was notably missing from Raila Odinga's first memorial, a high-profile occasion that drew significant attention and made his non-appearance all the more conspicuous.
Social media claims quickly spiralled, with some users alleging that the elder statesman had died.
The rumours grew loud enough that members of his family and senior ODM leaders were forced to come forward publicly to shut them down, confirming that Oburu was alive but had been unwell and receiving medical care.
The images shared by Raila Junior offered perhaps the most reassuring response yet to all the conjecture. Seeing the two men together, calm and in good spirits, gave the public a direct window into Oburu's recovery.
The photos show Oburu Oginga sitting on a couch while his nephew, Raila Junior, sits beside him reading a newspaper. In another frame, both men are seated on the couch looking directly toward the camera.
Oburu, the older brother of the late Raila Odinga, has long been a significant figure in Kenyan politics in his own right.
His health scare came at a particularly emotional time for the Odinga family, who are still navigating life following the loss of Raila.
Raila Junior's gesture of visiting his uncle and choosing to document the moment publicly appeared deliberate, offering both a personal show of family solidarity and a clear message to those who had been worried.
