Last night’s throngs at the squares in Porto and Lisbon that have become centres for ‘right to housing demonstrations’ dispersed without incident last night, and through the early hours of this morning, with focus now on the Lisbon courthouse where the 31 people arrested during protests are to be heard.
The plan, reportedly, is to hold a vigil outside the courts “to monitor the hearings”, and then return for another people’s assembly in Rossio at 7pm this evening.
“The dozens of people detained in the early hours of October 20 and 25 will be heard on Monday and Tuesday, October 26 and 27, at the Campus da Justiça” and “we call on all individuals and groups in solidarity to come and support those who were attacked by the police”, says the Lisbon Acampada organisation in a post on social media.
Otherwise, very little has changed since the ‘outrage’ expressed yesterday following police charges on protestors in the early hours of Sunday morning. The calls by left wing parties and entities for intervention by President Seguro, explanations from the prime minister, remain unanswered, with both men conspicuous by their absence.
