Games to watch
- Class A boys - No. 2 Averill Park vs. No. 3 Cohoes, 5 p.m. at South Glens Falls: Their regular-season meeting ended in a 2-2 overtime draw, with Luis Edson scoring twice for Cohoes, and Gabriel Musset and Noah Reale answering for Averill Park. The Tigers enter unbeaten in 11 games after Edson scored four goals in their quarterfinal win over Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk. Averill Park is 2-1-2 in its past five, with Zane Dalis, Musset and Evan LaPier each scoring twice in a quarterfinal rout of Hudson Falls. Cohoes seeks its second straight Class A final appearance and first sectional title. Averill Park last reached the final in 2022, one year after its last title.
- Class B boys - No. 4 Broadalbin-Perth vs. No. 8 Catskill, 7:30 p.m. at Waterford: Catskill earned its fifth straight win by upsetting state-ranked Cobleskill-Richmondville, the top seed in sectionals, 2-1 in overtime on goals from Waylon Lynch and Sean Duarte. Broadalbin-Perth has won four of its past five, including a 1-0 quarterfinal victory over Mechanicville on a goal from Beckett Korona. The Patriots, who beat Catskill 6-3 in their regular-season meeting in early October, with Anthony Zierak scoring twice, seek their first Class B final appearance since 2015 and their first title since 2011. Catskill last reached the final in 2022 and has never won a sectional championship.
- Class C girls - No. 1 Stillwater vs. No. 4 Mayfield, 7:30 p.m. at Amsterdam: Mayfield sophomore Ava VanNostrand scored both goals in a 2-1 overtime win over Maple Hill, setting up a Class C semifinal against defending state champion Stillwater. VanNostrand has 41 goals and eight assists, and has scored in six straight games - and all but two this season - as the Panthers (14-3) have won six straight. Stillwater (16-2) earned its 10th consecutive win by beating Waterford-Halfmoon 1-0. Led by Brooke Hodgson and Kamryn VanPelt, Stillwater has scored 79 goals, allowed nine and recorded 12 shutouts. Its only losses came against Class B opponents Schuylerville and Mechanicville.
Player to watch
Evelyn Messner, Schoharie girls: Messner has scored 11 goals in two playoff games, including six in a 9-0 first-round win over Bolton/Warrensburg and five in a 7-0 quarterfinal win over Galway. The sophomore has 33 goals during Schoharie's nine-game winning streak and 66 this season, combining with her younger sister, Alayna, to lead the Storm to a plus-106 goal differential. After Schoharie lost to Maple Hill in the Class C semifinals last season, Messner looks to lead the No. 3 Storm over the hump, which means getting past No. 2 Lake George today.
