KIBAHA: A TOTAL of 337 young people in Kibaha Municipality and Kibaha District, Coast Region, are expected to benefit from a civic empowerment project aimed at strengthening their advocacy skills and participation in community decision-making.
The K-Vote project, which will run from October 2026 to March 2027, seeks to equip young people with civic knowledge and the skills to engage government constructively and express their views peacefully.
Speaking during the project’s launch in Kibaha Municipality last week, Youth Partnership Countrywide (YPC) Executive Director, Mr Israel Ilunde, said the organisation would work with the government to implement the initiative.
He said the project would equip young people with the skills to educate their peers, engage in civic affairs and communicate their concerns to authorities constructively.
“The goal is to give youth more opportunities on platforms for civic issues and to enable them to give their opinions in a peaceful manner,” he said.
Mr Ilunde said the project would cover four wards of Maili Moja and Mkuza in Kibaha Municipality and Kwala and Mlandizi in Kibaha District.
He added that YPC would collaborate with local government authorities and religious leaders to identify young people who would participate in the programme.

Kibaha District Administrative Secretary, Mr Moses Magogwa, said the initiative aligned with the government’s development priorities under Vision 2050, particularly efforts to equip young people with skills and involve them in development processes.
He said the government was working with various stakeholders to address challenges facing young people and expand opportunities for their participation in development.
“One of the targets of Vision 2050 is to have youth who have skills, are productive and have a positive mindset, and having this project is a contribution towards achieving that goal,” he said.
Maili Moja Ward Councillor, Mr Ramadhani Lutambi, said the project could help address young people’s feelings of exclusion from community decisionmaking.
He expressed hope that the initiative would create more opportunities for youth to contribute to local development and help strengthen peace.
The project’s lead trainer, Mr Deus Kibamba, said youth facilitators would undergo two days of training before implementation begins.
“The training will cover the importance of civic education, relevant laws governing civic education and techniques for delivering civic education to other young people,” he said.
