The Seventh Day Adventist church (SDA) has donated 110 wheelchairs worth K250,000 to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) aimed at easing mobility challenges among patients.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, SDA Woodlands Conference President, Daniel Chunga says the donation reflects the church’s commitment to Christian Service and Compassion by helping the vulnerable members of the Society.
Dr Chunga highlighted that improving health care requires collective efforts from Government, churches, the private sector and other stakeholders.
“The Gesture highlights the need for continued efforts to ensure that patients with mobility challenges can access health care facilities and services without unnecessary mobility barriers” he added.
Dr Chunga explained that wheelchairs are expected to assist patients who have difficulties with walking, helping them move between hospital departments and access medical services more conveniently.
Speaking at the same event, SDA Woodlands Conference Dorcas President Melody Mudenda reaffirmed the Dorcas Societ’s commitment to reaching out to communities through Charitable works and supporting people in need.
Miss Mudenda said the donation was part of the Dorcas society’s efforts to reach out to people in need and improve their quality of life, particularly those facing mobility challenges.
She encouraged continued acts of generosity and community service, noting that collective efforts can make a meaningful difference in the lives of the vulnerable people.
In receiving the donation, University Teaching Hospital Head Clinical Care Humphrey Kunda expressed appreciation for the Gesture.
Dr Kunda commended the church for complementing Government’s efforts in health care delivery, noting that partnerships with faith based organisations play an important role in addressing the needs of patients.
He has further encouraged other organisations to emulate the church’s example by supporting health care institutions and vulnerable members of society.
