Jane Dunyon has attracted attention beyond college tennis after appearing on the sidelines during the South Carolina Gamecocks’ 27-24 victory over the Tennessee Volunteers on October 24.
Her red-and-white checkered outfit circulated online, prompting interest in her athletic career and activities beyond the court as Dunyon competes for the Gamecocks' women's tennis team.
Dunyon joined the tennis program for the 2025 season, recording an 11-12 overall singles record during her freshman campaign and she also earned recognition on the Southeastern Conference's First-Year Academic Honor Roll.
Adding an academic achievement to her first year of college competition, her tennis experience began long before she arrived in Columbia after growing up in Utah and winning a state high school championship as a freshman at Weber High School.
She then headed to Europe to continue developing her racquet skills at the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy in France, and she has competed in qualifying at an ITF tournament in Lexington.
There, she won two qualifying matches to reach the main draw, then defeated Martina Capurro Taborda in the opening round before her run ended against South Carolina teammate Bella Bergkvist Larsson.
On the field, South Carolina secured a dramatic 27-24 victory over the Volunteers, improving to 4-3 after earning their second consecutive win against a ranked opponent following their road triumph over the Florida Gators.
The Gamecocks showed resilience to overturn a difficult situation and deliver another important result as quarterback LaNorris Sellers played a decisive role in the comeback, using his mobility to trouble Tennessee's defense.
After struggling to find consistency earlier in the game, Sellers produced a crucial late rushing touchdown to tie the score at 24, completing a drive that brought the Gamecocks back into contention.
South Carolina's defense then delivered the pivotal moment as lineman Dylan Stewart recorded a sack that forced a fumble, giving the Gamecocks possession at Tennessee's 34-yard line with an opportunity to take the lead.
Malik Orsan capitalized, converting a 48-yard field goal to seal the victory as South Carolina held Tennessee below 350 total yards and limited the Volunteers to six conversions on 15 third-down attempts.
Tennessee's 12 penalties, which accounted for nearly 100 yards, also contributed to its difficulties - but despite surrendering an early lead, the Gamecocks remained competitive and took advantage when it mattered.
South Carolina now heads to Oklahoma to take on the Sooners looking to extend its winning streak and secure a fifth victory of the season as the team finds itself surprisingly in the College Football Playoff conversation.
