Pakistan and China on Tuesday launched an information corridor to promote mutual understanding through media, information sharing and digital platforms.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Attaullah Tarar, Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong and Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning attended the launch of the China-Pakistan Information Corridor (CPIC) at the Pakistan-China Friendship Centre.
Tarar said the corridor will serve as a "bridge between the people of Pakistan and China, connecting minds and strengthening mutual understanding through media, information sharing and digital platforms," the state-run Radio Pakistan reported.
He said the corridor stands on four pillars, including media, business and enterprise, think tanks, and culture, tourism and youth. He said the media pillar would facilitate verified news exchange between Pakistani and Chinese media organisations and establish mechanisms to counter misinformation through fact-checking.
Jiang said that the information corridor will help create greater cohesion through information sharing and greater understanding of each other's cultures and traditions.
He said the initiative will also help counter propaganda against the two countries.
Mao said the corridor's four pillars will play an important role in telling more and better stories about China-Pakistan cooperation and enabling more people to understand and support the friendship between the two countries.
