Bollywood actors Kriti Sanon and Varun Dhawan have lent their voices to the Hindi version of Hollywood horror film Obsession, which will premiere on streaming platform JioHotstar on October 30.
Directed by Curry Barker, the film will be available in its original, uncut versions in English and Hindi on the platform’s Peacock Hub. Sanon will voice Nikki, while Dhawan will lend his voice to Bear in the Hindi adaptation.
The film, which stars Inde Navarrette and Michael Johnston in its original version, has grossed USD 523.5 million worldwide, as per Box Office Mojo.
Alok Jain, head of Hindi and English entertainment business at JioStar, said the Hindi adaptation would help the film reach a wider audience in India. “Great stories have the power to resonate with audiences, far beyond the languages they are told in or the geographies they belong to,” he said in a statement.
Jain said Sanon and Dhawan were chosen for their versatility and familiarity with the horror genre. “Kriti and Varun bring a strong cross-generational appeal to the table. They have established themselves as versatile actors across genres. Their familiarity in the horror genre, combined with their ability to bring the right emotion and nuance to their characters, makes them a great fit for the Hindi version”.
Sanon said the project marked her first experience of lending her voice to another actor’s performance. “I absolutely loved the film and the performances in Obsession. It’s such a gripping, quirky & twisted story. I’ve never explored a character this edgy before, which made the experience even more exciting & challenging”.
Dhawan said working on the Hindi version allowed him to discover new details in the film. “I found myself enjoying the film even more because I could look at it so closely. I noticed so many little details that I may have missed on a first watch, and that made the whole experience even more interesting,” he said.
The Hindi version marks another collaboration between the two actors, who previously starred together in films including Dilwale and Bhediya.
