The federal government has taken up a Rs. 69.893 billion irrigation and agricultural development project for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), with funding expected from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the provincial government.
The KP Resilient Irrigated Agriculture Livelihoods Development Project was among the major development schemes considered by the Central Development Working Party (CDWP).
Under the proposed financing plan, the ADB is expected to contribute Rs. 56.133 billion, equivalent to around $200 million. The KP government will provide another Rs. 11.692 billion, including funds for land acquisition.
The project includes rehabilitating the Pehur Main Canal, constructing the Mulkhow Irrigation Distribution System, and extending the Pehur High Level Canal.
These works are intended to improve irrigation infrastructure and support agricultural livelihoods across the province.
The project was considered at a CDWP meeting chaired by Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal. The forum reviewed 14 development projects nationwide with a combined estimated cost of Rs. 226.48 billion.
