The new sports-focused subscription will carry every Premier League and UEFA Champions League match from November 5, as MultiChoice introduces four packages designed around different budgets and viewing preferences.
MultiChoice Uganda has introduced a Shs100,000 monthly DStv Sports package that includes every Premier League and UEFA Champions League match, as the pay-TV provider restructures its subscriptions to offer viewers more affordable access to premium content.
The new package, which takes effect on November 5, will also feature other sports and general entertainment channels, giving subscribers access to major football competitions without having to pay for the company’s most expensive subscription.
The changes are part of a wider restructuring that will see DStv offer four main packages: Starter at Shs25,000, Select at Shs60,000, Sports at Shs100,000 and Ultimate at Shs185,000 per month.
Hassan Saleh, MultiChoice Uganda chief executive, said the changes were intended to give subscribers more options based on their viewing preferences and spending.
“Our focus is on giving subscribers better value and access to the entertainment they love,” Saleh said during the launch at the company’s head offices in Kampala on Monday.
The new structure separates sports-focused viewing from general entertainment, allowing subscribers to choose packages according to their interests and budgets.
According to DStv’s published package information, the Sports bouquet offers more than 150 channels, including a selection of sports and entertainment content. DStv Ultimate, the highest-priced option, has more than 170 channels and combines extensive sports coverage with premium entertainment and additional sporting events.
These include Formula 1, international rugby, cricket, tennis and golf.
The Shs25,000 Starter package, which replaces DStv Access, offers more than 110 channels, including the SuperSport KICKOFF channel. It carries La Liga matches and selected fixtures from competitions such as the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.
DStv Select, priced at Shs60,000 and replacing DStv Family, offers more than 140 channels, including movies, local and international series, news, children's programming and selected sports.
Julianne Mweheire, the Uganda Communications Commission's director of industry affairs and content development, welcomed the changes, saying they reflected responsiveness to consumers' needs.
“For the first time, we are not talking about economics, we are talking about customers speaking and the entity listening,” Mweheire said.
The revised packages come as pay-TV providers seek to retain subscribers by offering content that matches household budgets and viewing preferences.
In another change targeting regional audiences, MultiChoice will launch SuperSport Swahili on November 5. The 24-hour channel will be available in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania, featuring football, international sporting events and original programming with Swahili commentary and analysis.
Its coverage is expected to include the Premier League, UEFA competitions, La Liga, Serie A, athletics, UFC and WWE.
MultiChoice also said it would continue investing in local productions, with upcoming programmes including the fourth season of Kampala Crème, Musama, the fourth season of Home of Our Stars, Tie the Knot and Short and Byg Show.
The company said the package changes would apply across satellite television, streaming and GOtv platforms.
