BUKIT MERTAJAM: Four foreign boys aged between nine and 12 have been detained following a criminal intimidation report lodged by a 71-year-old woman in Taman Sri Rambai.
Seberang Prai Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Nik Aminuddin Raja Abdullah said police received the report yesterday over an incident outside the woman's home on Oct 22 at 6pm.
He said the woman had reprimanded a group of children playing at a nearby playground for making excessive noise.
However, she alleged that the group ignored her warning and threw stones and a metal rod at her.
"The objects did not hit her, but the incident left her frightened and prompted her to lodge a police report," he said in a statement today.
Following investigations, police detained the four boys in separate operations around Taman Sri Rambai and seized several items believed to be linked to the incident.
Nik Aminuddin said the boys were brought before the Bukit Mertajam Magistrate's Court, where a four-day remand order was obtained from Oct 27 to 30 to facilitate further investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code, Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.
He advised parents and guardians to monitor their children's behaviour and teach them to respect others.
He also called on the public to maintain good neighbourly relations and report any threats to public safety to the police.
